Open Nephrectomy Including Ureterectomy
A nephrectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the kidney, ureter, and may also remove a portion of the bladder. The kidney, ureter, and bladder are lined by tissue called transitional epithelium. When cancer occurs within this lining, it is referred to as transitional cell carcinoma. A nephrectomy procedure may be recommended if you have been diagnosed with transitional cell carcinoma of the kidney and ureter. An open procedure may be considered for advanced tumors.
